Environmental Justice: The Bottle Bill
Environmental justice is about dignity, health, and the right to a clean, safe community. The Bottle Bill is more than a recycling initiative — it is a strategy to reduce litter, create green-economy jobs, and restore pride to neighborhoods long impacted by pollution. By giving value to bottles and cans that often end up as trash, we can reduce waste, keep our streets clean, and create income-generating opportunities for residents.
For more than a decade, I have worked on the frontlines of environmental justice in DC — leading educational walking tours, conducting clean-air studies, organizing Anacostia River cleanups, and partnering with trusted organizations, including the EPA. I’ve written articles to raise awareness and educate the public about environmental justice (check one out for yourself!) My work has always been rooted in community, advocacy, and action, not performance. As At-Large Councilmember, I will make the Bottle Bill a key pillar of DC’s sustainability and economic-justice agenda.
